Program Process - Adjunct Faculty (Credit)
The prerequisites for certification candidates are that the individual:
- Meets qualifications of College for adjunct faculty
- Makes formal application to the program
- Is teaching at the College when application is submitted
- Is recommended by department chair
Level I: Entry Certification (Adjunct Faculty - Credit)
The individual faculty member:
- Discusses participation in the certification program with department chair.
- Submits an application for certification candidacy to Chair, Distance Learning and Faculty Development
- Receives acceptance into certification program
- Work with the department chair to design a plan for completion of requirements
- Will be designated as Entry Level (Level I) while completing the requisites for Preliminary Certification (Level II)
- Submits a Record of Professional Service and Development form, at the end of each semester outlining training sessions, workshops, committee activities, and higher education classes that you attended.
Level II: Preliminary Certification (Adjunct Faculty - Credit)
To achieve preliminary certification the faculty member must complete:
- A minimum of four semesters teaching at CSM (may include summer session)
- Successful teaching of at least 12 credit hours at CSM
- Eight hours of new faculty orientation, which includes any pre-semester training activities at CSM, e.g. Getting Wired
- Sixteen additional hours of CSM workshops/development activities focused on effective community college teaching or approved off-campus workshops, seminars, or conferences
- Complete and submit Record of Professional Service and Development form, at the end of each semester outlining training sessions, workshops, committee activities, and higher education classes that you attended; and/or to apply for Level II candidacy.
- Faculty member must be recommended by their department chair
Completion of Level II requirements, as documented by Chair of DLF in conjunction with Human Resources Department, increases the faculty member's base pay by 5%.
To maintain preliminary certification the faculty member must:
- Annually complete and document one unit (8 hours) of Faculty Development and one unit (8 hours) of Faculty Service. Examples of faculty service include the following:
- College-wide committees
- Faculty Senate committees
- Professional community involvement, related to professional responsibilities
- Contribution to fulfillment of college continuing education and community service goals
- Course/program development and evaluation
- Departmental mentoring
- Articulation with secondary systems, proprietary schools, colleges and universities
- Leadership of co-curricular activities
- Development of grant proposals which receive college approval for submission
- Self-designed project to fulfill college objectives
- Contribution to fulfillment of department goals, e.g. student advisement, development and implementation of retention activities
- Abide by these conditions:
- Faculty members who have taught for a period of time and then have a lapse in service must consult the Chair of DLF regarding maintenance of certification. The department chair will be responsible for approving the DLF Chair's recommendations.
Maintenance of preliminary certification sustains
the 5% increase in the faculty member’s base pay. The Chair of DLF will
inform the Human Resources Department of the faculty member's status.
Level III: Full Certification (Adjunct Faculty - Credit)
To achieve full certification the faculty member must complete:
- A minimum of six semesters teaching at CSM (may include summer session)
- Successful teaching of at least 24 credit hours at CSM
- Level II
- One Educational Keynote Project (proposal must be approved by department chair before beginning a project)
- Complete and submit Record of Professional Service and Development form at the end of each semester outlining training sessions, workshops, committee activities, and higher education classes that you attended; and/or to apply for Level III candidacy.
- Faculty member must be recommended by her/his department chair.
Completion of Level III requirements, as documented by DLF in conjunction with Human Resources Department, increases the faculty member's base pay by an additional 5%.

- Annually complete and document two units (16 hours) of Faculty Development and two units (16 hours) of Faculty Service.Examples of faculty service include the following:
